Besan Gatta with Gravy | Rajsthani Gatte Ki Subji

I share with you Besan Gatta with gravy recipe. This is very Delicious recipe. Gram flour dumplings flavored with dry spices steamed and then dunked into a yoghurt based curry a traditional Rajasthan specialist. Ghatte ki Sabji was so different in taste. Ghatte Ki sabji eat with puri, chapati or rice. Gatte ki sabzi is a dish that you can never miss out when you have Rajasthani meal. I have tasted this sabji in a Rajasthani restaurant. This recipe is an integral part of the Rajasthani thali. I like this sabji. Gatta’s are made with Gram flour and no add other vegetables. So let’s me start Besan gatta with gravy.


For the Ghatte :-

  • 1½ cup, Gram flour (Besan)
  • 1tsp Red chilli powder (Lal mirch powder)
  •  ½ tsp Celery seeds (Ajwain)
  •  ¼ tsp Turmeric powder (Haldi powder)
  •  ¼ tsp Black paper powder (Kali mirch powder)
  • Salt to taste (Namak)
  • 1 tsp Oil

For The Gravy:-

  •  1 cup Yogurt (Dahi)
  • 1 tbsp Gram flour (Besan)
  •  1 tsp Garlic paste (Lahsun paste)
  •  1 tsp Coriander powder (Dhania powder)
  • 2 tsp Cumin seeds (Jeera)
  • ½ tsp Fenugreek sedds (Methi dana)
  •  ½ tsp Grated, Ginger (Adrak)
  • 1 tsp Chopped, Green chillis (Hari mirchi)
  • ½ tsp Red chilli powder
  •  ½ tsp Red chilli powder
  •  ¼ tsp Turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp Garam masala
  •  4-6 Curry Leaves
  •  2 tbsp Oil
  •  Salt to taste


To Make Gatta:-

  Take a bowl. In bowl mix together Gram flour, Red chilli powder, Black Paper powder, Salt to taste, Oil, Turmeric powder, Celery seeds and mix well. Add some water and knead a stiff dough just like for rotis. Divide the dough into equal portion and shape each portion into a 80 mm. (3)” long cylindrical roll. Boil water in a pan and prepare Gattas roll in boiling water. Cook until they flat on top. Remove the gattas roll and let it cool down. Cut the gatta rolls into 1 inch pieces. Keep a side.

For The Gravy:-

 Firstly, whisk the Curd smooth with a beater. Add Gram flour, Salt and mix well so that no lumps remain. Heat the oil in pan, add the Fenugreek seeds, Cumin seeds. When cracle the seeds add Green chili paste, Ginger paste, Garlic paste, Curry leaves and fry for 2 minutes. Now lower the flame. Add the whisked curd mixture and stir well and continue cook for 5-7 minutes. Now add the gattas water separated earlier. Bring it to a boil and then add the cut gatta piece let the mix. Keep bubbling in low flame for about 6-8 minutes, till you see the oil on the sides of the gravy. So prepare your tasty besan gattas with gravy.
