Petha Recipe | Agre Ka Petha At Home

  • 2 kg Whit Pumpkin (Kaddu)
  • 1 tsp Slate lime Powder
  •  1.5 kg Sugar
  • Few Drops Rose Essence
  • 1 tbsp Milk


Firstly, wash the Pumpkin, peel and remove the seeds. Cut into (25 mm) square pieces. Prick each piece with fork all over. The lime powder mix in water and soak the pumpkin pieces in lime water for 45 to 55 minutes. Remove and wash the pieces throughly under running water at least 2 to 3 times. Drain and keep a side heat heavy bottom pan, put sugar and water and bring it to boil dissolve the sugar. Simmer the sugar syrup till in 1 string consistency. Add milk, when the scum rises to the top, collect it with a ladle, and discard. Add Rose Essence and mix well. Add the pumpkin pieces and cook for 8 to 10 minutes (till completely cooked) till the syrup is of 3 string consistency. Remove the flame and take out the pieces. Keep covered the syrup with a mesh, overnight in a cool place so prepare your Agra ka Petha. Serve and garnish with pistachio.
